Have you found your signature scent yet?……

It’s not that I search for a new fragrance every year … it’s more that I inevitably find myself in Selfridges or Liberty with a friend during a shopping trip and can’t resist the perfume counters. Is that so bad? This results in a fervent, fragrance obsession. A few years ago, it was Calvin Klein Euphoria. Then, of course, the requisite Chloé that every other woman now wears. More recently, it was Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche (Eau Tendre was my second choice).
A few months ago, I sold my soul to Burberry via Facebook (i.e. I let them have my contact details for marketing purposes) and received a small, but generous, sample of their newest fragrance, Burberry Body. OMG. OBSESSED.
While I’m generally unsure of how I feel exactly about the signature Burberry check (though I do have to admit they make a great, classic trench, besides Aquascutum), I’m pretty sure that I’ve loved all their fragrances to date. The problem is that they wear well for a couple years, and then they seem … well, dated. For example, Burberry Brit reminds me of university. And while I loved my uni years, I’m not sure I want to re-live them on a day-to-day basis. Fragrances remind me of moments and periods in my life; maybe that’s why I’m drawn to new perfumes every so often.
Anyway, enough navel-gazing. Back to Burberry Body. I didn’t warm to this particular fragrance immediately. It’s not something I’d usually wear as I go for scents that are fresh (think Chloé or Hermès Kelly Calèche) and this one has strong hints of vanilla and musk. But it’s also balanced out by top notes of fresh green absinthe, peach, and freesia, which is probably why it grew on me and by the end of the week, I couldn’t do without a dab on both wrists. It felt like my signature scent (oh yeah, like the 15 fragrances before I discovered this one were my “signature scents”). What I love about this perfume is that it’s a warm, yet elegant, fragrance and it wears like a second skin. And unlike the other scents Burberry has produced, it has a timeless quality to it and is something I could envision myself wearing for years.
That’s why it’s made it to my wishlist – and whether I can wait for it as a birthday present or cave and buy it for myself is something only time will tell.
Until the next time, xoxo Faisa
