One of my favourite things to do with girlfriends is to browse the beauty halls of various department stores and experiment with different makeup brands and products. This absolutely must be done with a girlfriend in tow because you can’t decide on a purchase unless you have a second opinion – at least, not for me!

Aside from Bobbi Brown, which I also love, Laura Mercier’s products are always on my wishlist. I love how the items from her line give you that “flawless” face without being too made up or overdone.

During a recent visit to Space NK, I realised that if money was no object, I’d easily spend a large chunk of it on Laura Mercier products. Here are my top three “must-have” products for any skin tone, that will also help get you through the cold snap we’re experiencing here in the UK:

Hydrating Foundation Primer

I’ve been using this primer for a few years now, and I can honestly say that it’s changed my entire beauty routine. If you’re after a dewy, glowing look that lasts throughout the day, then this is the primer for you (it also comes in original, oil-free and bonus hydrating versions too). It’s a little pricey for a primer at £28 (for 50 ml), but it does last for ages and you need no more than the size of a 5p coin to get you through the day. Of all the primers I’ve tried (including Nars, MAC, Chanel and Bobbi Brown) this one felt the best on the skin: moisturising (without being greasy), nourishing, and smoothing, it’s the key to dewy but not sticky skin. I put it on after cleansing and moisturising, but before applying foundation. It also helps your foundation last through the day, which totally makes it worth the price tag.

Lip Shine

Don’t get this confused with the Lip Stain, which is in similar packaging and the same price (£16.50). The Lip Shine in a Tempting Coral is a universal colour that flatters all skin tones, including dark, warm, and cool. The name “Tempting Coral” can be misleading: this isn’t a pink tone at all but rather red in nature and once you put it on your lips, adjusts to a lightweight blush that gives you just the right amount of colour. I like that it’s not sticky, as I tend to find Bobbi Brown lipglosses a little too sticky sometimes (though I absolutely adore their colours). And it lasts. I tried this on at the store and three hours later, when we were browsing hand creams in Melvita, I glanced in the mirror and it still stayed put. So if you’re after something natural that also gives you a bit of colour and moisture, this is definitely the product you should add to your wishlist.

Shimmer Bloc

And finally, Mercier’s famous Shimmer Bloc. Though this comes in a variety of shades, it works especially well on darker to medium warm skin tones. Applied with a fat, Kabuki brush to the cheekbones, (and if I’m going out, a dab on my forehead and down the centre of my nose as well) it highlights and makes you glow, glow, glow. And I’m all about the glowing in mid-winter, when the dull, harsh wind and cold can make your skin as flat as anything. Shimmer Bloc really warms up your skin but doesn’t make you look like you just stepped out of a club. It’s a baked formula, so is good for your skin (I forgot to mention that I’ve never suffered a breakout after using Laura Mercier products! Never!) and I also love that you can sweep your brush over the entire quad (which is what I usually do) or choose one colour to focus on.

And there you have it: my top three Laura Mercier products that I’ll certainly be saving up for. Happy sampling!

Until the next time, xoxo
