Statement Necklaces: Never Out Of Style

I just saw the most jaw-droppingly beautiful necklace on Net-a-Porter’s sister discount site, The Outnet.

This 24-karat gold-plated cabochon filigree necklace by Oscar de la Renta (reduced from £605 to £272.25) screams movie-star siren to me and I covet it not only for its gorgeous, cascading jewels, but also for the gold knots at the top. Isn’t it breathtakingly beautiful? Even at £272.25, it’s a bit pricey for a necklace, but this is an investment piece that will be passed down for generations to come. I’m seriously considering it.

One thing’s for sure: statement necklaces have always been around and they’re here to stay. Have you ever put on an evening or party dress, then thrown on a statement necklace at the last minute? Whenever I do this, I find that it completely transforms my entire look – glamming it up by 100%.

Oscar de la Renta seems to be the one producing the most drool-worthy pieces for me at the moment, but this gorgeous, bright orange, Bijoux beaded silk macramé necklace from Alberta Ferretti is a stunning centrepiece as well:

Something I’d wear to a private art exhibition or a little more creative event. A look I also love that would work well with this necklace is a huge, chunky, statement necklace atop an old, washed-out vintage t-shirt. There’s something so defiant about wearing such a show-stopping piece in a casual way that I can’t help but want to utilize it every day. Do you only bring out certain necklaces for “special occasions”? I have some jewellery pieces that are like that, but I also like the idea of wearing something fancy just for fun. The incredibly intricate knots of silk and beads that make up this necklace will certainly draw admiring and second glances.

For me, Kate Spade is the queen of statement necklaces. For a touch of the Upper East Side (I crave this especially after watching back-to-back episodes of Gossip Girl), incorporate pearls into your statement necklace look:

I mean, can’t you picture this on none-other-than Blair Waldorf? Layered over a prim and proper navy sheath or maxi dress, this Treasure Chest Statement Necklace’s ($428) bright pop of colour, paired with the nude tone beads and pearls is a perfect way to welcome the sunshine.

And for a fun, high-street alternative, look no further than one of my favourites, H&M:

The rope detail on this speaks of a nautical influence, whilst the chunky, bold and gold beads make it look designer. At £7.99, though, it can be our little secret! This is another versatile piece that would look great with a t-shirt, maxi dress, or even an evening number.

The thing to remember about wearing statement necklaces is to go easy with your other accessories – you don’t want huge, doorknocker earrings vying for attention. A chunky ring is okay, but go easy on the bracelets and stick to bare earlobes or stud earrings. A bold lip is fun to rock with statement necklaces as well, as it draws the attention to your face and neck. Enjoy!

Until the next time, xoxo
